Guide to shopping by Insulation Materials Online:

Thanks to innovations and technology, mankind has come a long way from using mud to keep themselves warm. Today, you have a wide range of materials that can help insulate your home or building, and keep the heat indoors for a longer time whilst helping you meet the building regulations.

Let's discuss these insulation materials in detail:

Fibreglass Insulation:

Fibreglass insulation is the most commonly used insulating material here in the UK. It is a cheap yet highly effective insulating material. Fibreglass or glass mineral wool also offers superior acoustic insulation, along with good fire resistance.

Fibreglass insulation is made of recycled glass. Under high temperatures and pressure, the recycled glass is converted to glass fibres that trap gas (usually the blowing agent) in its minute pockets. This trapped gas is one of the reasons for the insulating properties of fibreglass. Fibreglass insulation is mostly in the form of rolls or batts. It can be used in insulating walls, roofs, suspended floors and much more.

Fibreglass insulation is breathable and of open cell nature. As it does not contain any organic materials, these glass mineral wool rolls and batts do not permit mould growth. However, they are not waterproof. They resist water ingress to a certain extent and allow a free pass to water vapours to avoid condensation issues.

Fibreglass insulation can be harmful to anyone who touches it with bare hands. Tiny glass fibres tend to get lodged in the trachea and cause respiratory problems to those who inhale its fibres.

At our insulation shop, Buy Insulation Online, we stock fibreglass insulation batts and rolls. With us, you will find glass wool insulation for pipes, ducts, walls and much more from the following brands.

Knauf Insulations:

Knauf Insulations is the leading insulation manufacturer across the globe. Off the many products that Knauf insulation makes, we stock the following fibreglass insulation materials:

Knauf loft insulation roll - which can be used to insulate lofts
Dritherm 32, Dritherm 37- Cavity batts for insulating cavity walls.
Knauf acoustic insulation roll - Fibreglass insulation rolls for effectively soundproofing walls, roofs and more.

Superglass Insulation:

Superglass is another insulation manufacturer in the UK and they make top-quality fibreglass insulation rolls for insulating lofts, soundproofing, and party walls along with insulation batts like Superwall 32 and 36 for cavity wall insulation.

Isover Insulation:

Isover from Saint Gobain makes both technical and structural insulation materials. Isover makes foil-faced duct insulation that reduces heat loss in the ductwork. In addition, they also make loft insulation rolls and party wall insulation.

Mineral wool:

Mineral wool insulation is a slight improvement from fibreglass insulation. Molten mineral stones and rocks form thin fibres called mineral wool fibres under extreme pressure and temperatures.

Mineral wool insulation has a slightly better thermal efficiency compared to fibreglass. It gives superior sound insulation and is better at resisting water ingress as well. They are again open-cell insulation whose insulating properties come from the millions of tiny bubbles in their fabric.

The mineral wool fibres are usually tightly bound with a binding agent. They are easy to install and use. Mineral wool is again supplied as insulation rolls or batts. You can also find insulation boards made of reinforced mineral wool, that give superior fire and thermal insulation.

At Buy Insulation Online, we stock mineral wool insulation from the following brands:

Rockwool Insulation:

Rockwool is a major mineral wool insulation manufacturer that has been around for a good number of years in the UK and across the globe.

At Buy Insulation Online, we stock mineral wool in the form of:

Insulation batts like RWA45, Rockwool Flexi, and Rockwool Rainscreen, all of which are known for their exceptional sound and thermal insulation.

Insulation rolls like Rockwool Twin roll, rollbatt and loft insulation roll. We also stock Rockwool Ductwrap, which gives superior duct insulation.

Insulation boards: Reinforced mineral wool is used in the Rockwool fire barrier, which gives exceptional fire insulation for up to 4 hours.  Rockwool FirePro gives superior fire insulation to ductwork. Insulation boards made of mineral wool are also used for duct insulation purposes, in general.

Aluminium foil for insulation:

Aluminium foil has good insulating properties and has been in use for insulation purposes for quite some time. However, multifoil, which is layers of aluminium foil alternating between wadding, is a new-age solution to all your insulation worries.

Multifoil insulation rolls and panels reflect radiant heat indoors. Also, by reflecting heat in the summer, they help keep your home cosy and comfortable throughout the year. They help meet U-values easily. In fact, with foil insulation, you can achieve a lower U-value than expected. They help prevent condensation but do not give much resistance to fire.

Foil insulation is so effective that even small pieces of foil tape can effectively insulate small cracks or holes in any application. They help seal cracks in any application insulation and ensure absolute protection from heat loss.

At Buy Insulation Online, we stock foil insulation from the following brands:

Actis Insulation:

Actis insulation makes a range of multifoil insulation products that are new and unique in their way. For Eg: Actis hybris is a unique honeycomb structured foil insulation panel that gives top-class insulation between rafters and timer wall frames.

Actis Hybrid insulation range that includes Actis hybrid H Control, Boost’r etc are specially designed for insulating roofs and walls. They have better thermal resistance compared to PIR and are also thinner, which helps save space, especially when used for wall insulation.

YBS Insulation:

YBS is a multifoil insulation manufacturer here in the UK with a range of top-quality products. At our insulation shop, we stock YBS Superquilt foil insulation rolls and breather membranes that can be used to insulate walls, cavity walls, roofs and much more.

SuperFoil Insulation:

Superfoil insulation rolls are multipurpose insulation rolls that can be used to insulate garages, sheds, walls and roofs. Made with about 7 layers of foil insulation, this insulation roll gives unmatched thermal insulation, restricts heat loss and prevents condensation issues.

PIR (Polyiso)

Pir or polyiso is an insulating material that is available as an 8 x 4 insulation board. PIR boards have an unmatched K-Value of about 0.022 W/mK, which ensures superior thermal insulation no matter where it is used.

Rigid foam boards are made of foamed polyisocyanurate insulation and usually come with foil facings on both sides. The foil-facings further help reduces heat loss and restricts the entry of water or moisture in your application.

At Buy Insulation Online, we stock PIR boards by:

Celotex Insulations

Celotex makes PIR insulation boards that can be used to insulate almost every part of your building. Among the many insulation materials that this brand makes, we stock Celotex CW4000, Celotex GA4000, Celotex XR4000 and Celotex TB4000 at very competitive prices.

Xtratherm and Iko Insulation:

Both Xtratherm and Iko insulations make top-quality PIR insulation boards that are versatile in application. These can be used to insulate walls, roofs, floors and much more. Iko Enertherm can also be used for cavity wall insulation.

Gypsum:

Calcium sulfate dihydrate or more commonly called Gypsum is the most commonly used for making plasterboards. Plasterboards are used for drylining and partitioning purposes.

At Buy Insulation Online, we stock Gypsum plasterboards from Knauf Insulations. These plasterboards, when combined with an insulating material like PIR, XPS or EPS make insulated plasterboards.

Additionally, specialised gypsum plasterboards can be used for specialised purposes like acoustic insulation, fire insulation, or in places that require superior moisture resistance.

Polystyrene Insulation:

Polystyrene insulation, be it in the form of extruded polystyrene or expanded polystyrene is extensively used to insulate walls and floors. It can also be used for underfloor insulation.

Both expanded and extruded polystyrene boards are made of the same material, but they differ in the way they're made. Extruded polystyrene is a step up from expanded polystyrene in its thermal efficiency and compressive strength. Polystyrene insulation is cheaper compared to batt insulation and PIR insulation.

At Buy Insulation online, we stock polystyrene insulation by Jablite, Styrene, Key-Metzeler, Cellecta, Warm-up, Polyfoam and Prowarm brands.

Phenolic Foam:

Phenolic foam is a foam insulation product made from phenolic resin. They give exceptional thermal conductivity and are cheaper compared to PIR insulation. Here at Buy Insulation online, we stock phenolic foam insulation for pipes and ducts by Kingspan.

Nitrile Rubber:

Nitrile rubber is made of Buna-R a synthetic rubber that is highly flexible and has a very good K-value. These are especially used to insulate pipes and ducts from both cold and hot temperatures. They prevent pipe freezing and condensation issues.

Hemp Wool:

Hemp plant fibres are naturally strong and sturdy. They have been in use for a long time as ropes, sails etc and with the recent innovations in the construction industry, they are re-purposed to give exceptional insulation.

Hemp fibres are derived from the hemp plant. Hemp wool insulation is an eco-friendly way to keep your home energy efficient. It improves air quality and is much safer compared to fibreglass or foam boards.

At Buy Insulation Online, we stock hemp wool boards and slabs that are ideal for external and internal wall insulation along with use in pitched roofs.
