Thermal insulation jackets are an ideal way to insulate gate valves, simply because, they minimise heat loss, protect and also help with the maintenance of the gate valves. Here’s why valve jackets are perfect, in our expert opinion:
Thermal Insulation: Valve jackets contain 50mm Rockwool insulation. The mineral wool with low thermal conductivity helps minimise heat loss in gate valves. They provide airtight insulation around the gate valves hence reducing energy consumption whilst also making the building more energy-efficient. This is particularly helpful in commercial and industrial environments.
Safer Workplace: Insulation jackets are made with high-quality silicone glass cloth for both outdoor and indoor applications. The top-quality glass cloth not only gives a neat, professional finish but also helps protect your workforce from direct contact with hot surfaces. Valve covers also help reduce condensation and sweating in valves. This, in turn, reduces instances where small pools of water are formed due to condensation that eventually leads to slips or accidents in the workplace.
Easy to Install and Maintain: Unlike traditional insulation, which is hard and rigid, insulation jackets are flexible and easy to use. They are also provided with velcro straps and pull cords which ensure that the jackets are snugly fit around gate valves to achieve maximum thermal efficiency. They can be just as easily reinstalled without any damage to the gate valves or loss of insulation.

Gate Valve Jacket Insulation
Gate valves are an essential component of the plumbing system. Hence, it becomes critical to maintain them properly whilst also protecting them from heat loss and damaging external factors.
Valve jacket insulation for gate valves is a smart and innovative way to protect and maintain gate valves. Available in standard sizes ranging from 15mm to 300mm, these insulation jackets are made in standard grey and standard black colours.
If you are unsure of the correct fit for you or have any bespoke requirements, please feel free to contact us via call, email or WhatsApp. We also do site surveys for valve jacket requirements. If you want us to visit the job site and quote you for your valve jacket requirements, please fill in the form on this page or email us and let us know what you need.
Now let us discuss a bit more in detail about valve jacket insulation for Gate Valves.
What are Gate valves?
A gate valve either lets the liquid flow freely through it or shuts off its flow. It is a type of control valve. It is either totally closed, restricting the flow of fluid within, or open allowing the free flow of liquid.
Why Insulate gate valves?
As mentioned above, gate valves are an important component of the plumbing system. It controls the flow of liquid whenever required and therefore it is important to maintain them properly. Properly maintained gate valves help improve the overall functioning of the plumbing system.
Also, when gate valves are left uninsulated, they serve as a point of heat loss or gain for the liquid within. This could lead to valve sweating or condensation, which in turn causes workplace mishaps or other moisture-related problems.
How can you insulate gate waves?
Gate valves can be insulated using flexible and easily removable valve jackets. They provide airtight insulation to gate valves and also protect them from damaging external conditions.
What is valve jacket insulation made of?
Valve jacket insulation or valve covers are made of an outer silicone or PVC coated glass fibre cloth and an inner mineral wool filling.
The fibreglass cloth is tested to the required standards. It protects the hot surface of the valves and damage.
The mineral wool filling inside is about 50mm thick. Mineral wool has low thermal conductivity, that is, it does not allow heat to pass through its fabric easily, hence saving both energy and money.
Is gate valve jacket insulation worth it?
Yes, valve covers are worth it for the following reasons:
- They restrict heat loss, saving energy and movie.
- They make the workplace safer.
- They reduce condensation/sweating in gate valves.
- Makes maintenance of gate valves easier and quicker.
How to install gate valve jackets?
Free the gate valve of any dirt, oil or grease. Place the valve jacket insulation of the correct size over the gate valves and bring the ends of the insulation jackets together. Secure them using the velcros straps in these valve covers and pull the draw cords together for airtight insulation.
How to choose the correct size of valve cover online?
The size of the gate valve cover depends on the size of the pipe the gate valve is placed on. For example, if the gate valves are placed on a 22mm thick pipe, then you will need a 22mm gate valve jacket for your application.
Another important piece of information we need before we make these insulation jackets for gate valves is the thickness of the pipe lagging. This helps to make a gate valve jacket of the appropriate size to cover the entire set-up.
How do valve covers improve workplace safety?
Other than restricting heat loss and saving both energy and money, valve covers help with two main aspects of workplace safety:
Maintenance:
Valve jacket insulation for gate valves reduces the maintenance time by half. It is important to maintain the gate valves properly to ensure the proper functioning of the plumbing system.
For easier maintenance, you will need easy access to these gate valves, which is not possible, if you have rigid insulation covering them. While removing and re-installing the insulation after maintenance, both the gate valves and the insulation should remain unharmed.
Valve covers can be easily removed and reinstalled during maintenance. They do not harm these gate valves in any way. Valve jackets are much easier to work with compared to hard insulation.
Personnel protection:
Silicone-coated glass cloth used in making these gate valve jacket insulation protects personnel from coming in direct contact with the hot surface of the gate valves. Hence, they protect your workforce from burns or related accidents.
Valve jackets also protect gate valves from condensation and sweating. They are specially made to suit the geometry of gate valves- screwed or flanged, and cover the gate valve completely.
Hence they protect these valves from condensation and sweating. If left uninsulated, gate valves will condense/sweat, forming tiny water pools, which a worker could slip and hurt themselves. Valve covers prevent all that.
